Religious & Economic Crisis: 1% believe in Jesus; over 50% unemployment

Religious & Economic Crisis: 1% believe in Jesus; over 50% unemployment

June 2011

“I have noticed that disease and poverty has increased in Gaza over the past several years, due to the oppression and economic crisis. Yet, we are so blessed to pray the prayer of faith for healing and at the same time provide food and medicine.” – Pastor Hanna, (WOP Gospel Worker)

Dear Friend,

As a believer in Jesus, Pastor Hanna can not ignore the cries of the needy that surround him.

You see, Gaza suffers extreme poverty and lack. It’s unemployment rate hovers above 50%. The 450,000 inhabitants of the city are left to scrounge for the basic necessities of life. Food and basic health care are completely dependant on foreign aid.

Yet, despite their hard life, Pastor Hanna feels compelled to be a light and a helping hand in this dire, if not fatal situation.

Friend, through your support of Way of Peace Ministries, I’m proud to tell you that you reach out to the poor in Gaza every month. Jesus spoke of you when He said:

“And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”

Yes, there are more than 450,000 poor, hurting people in Gaza. They endure hunger, poverty and ill health because of Gaza’s crippled economy. Over 80% rely on humanitarian aid for their very existence. Health care is almost non-existent.

Pastor Hanna is one of the fortunate ones who receives your support, and in turn can be a blessing in the name of Jesus to the other inhabitants of Gaza. Thanks to your support he can provide food and medicine and assist poor children to attend school.

Incredibly, Pastor Hanna is also able to reveal the saving grace of Jesus in an area where only 3,500 known believers in Jesus reside. Yes, 3,500 in a population of 450,000, less than 1%!

Friend, I’m sending this urgent call for aid because so many others are pleading for help… and lives could be lost if we don’t respond in time.

Will you give $83 to help provide physical and spiritual medicine for these needy people? For $83, one family will receive rice, beans, sugar, olive oil and milk, enough to last one month. If you can find it in your heart to donate $249, you can feed one family for three months.

I can’t begin to tell you how grateful Pastor Hanna is for the help they receive.

Yes, the food and medicine distribution is vitally important. However, Pastor Hanna and the other Gospel workers WOP supports understand THE most important work, The Great Commission

The food and medicine provide an open door to present Jesus, THE HEALER. In an area where under 1% of the population believe in Jesus, this is crucial.

Pastor Hanna recently told me:

“There is a great need for ministry among the people. I recently went to 20 locations in Gaza, praying for the people’s needs, counseling and teaching God’s Word. I anointed many with oil and prayed the prayer of faith for healing from cancer, heart disease and other sicknesses.”

Through one of the only evangelical churches in Gaza, Pastor Hanna and this precious body of believers are a beacon of hope. Through home Bible studies and a church run kindergarten, doors are opened to share the love of Jesus.

They need us now! These precious souls turn to you, praying that they can count on our generous heart. We are challenged to meet these great needs.

Along with your donation today, would you continue to support this vital work through your prayers? Would you also write a note of blessing to our Gospel workers in Israel on the enclosed response form? I will see it is received.

Thank you for your response today,

Shalom in Christ,

Nathan Thurber

PS. I pray you’ll act fast and send your best donation today. We will rush this support to the needy. Hope is in short supply for these hurting people. You provide a life line to a hopeless people.
